The variety is Phka Rumduol. The Cambodian jasmine that has won World's Best Rice five times. We grow one crop a year. Plant in June when the rains come. Harvest in October when the paddy turns gold.

Sothy has farmed this land since 1991. He plants by the Khmer lunar calendar. He'll show you what to do.

May to July · Planting
The rains come. Paddies fill. Rice transplanting is the main farm activity.

August to October · Growing
The water wheel is active. The farm is most photogenic. Quietest tourist season in Siem Reap.

November to January · Harvest
Cutting, threshing, the ox cart moving grain. Most dramatic season. Book early.

February to April · Dry season
Animals, tools, village crafts. Land prep starts in April. Khmer New Year in April.

What you may use

Twelve activities, four sessions.

Each one uses a real Khmer tool that is still in use on this farm. Rice transplanting, harvest, threshing, the buffalo plough, the bamboo winnowing basket, the water wheel, the village crafts.

Half day, full day, or one session at a time. All equipment included. Rubber boots provided.
